ATLANTA, GEORGIA— Despite his recent injury, Argentine soccer superstar Lionel Messi remains part of the Argentia National soccer team that will compete in three World Cup qualifying matches this year.
Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni is hopeful Messi can play in their matches against Paraguay, Uruguay, and Peru.
Argentina takes on Paraguay in Asuncion on Oct. 7 before hosting Uruguay in Buenos Aires three days later and then Peru on Oct. 14.
Last September 9, Messi put on a show with a hat trick to carry Argentina to a 3-0 win over the visiting Bolivia in a World Cup qualifier.
With his superb performance, Messi moved past Brazilian soccer legend Pele as South America’s top male scorer with 79 goals.
At the moment, Argentina is second behind Brazil in the 10-team qualifying group for Qatar in 2022.
The top four teams qualify automatically and the fifth-placed side goes into an inter-regional playoff.
