ATLANTA, GEORGIA—Atlanta United FC fans have reasons to smile these days.
According to reports, despite some offers from some of the top professional soccer teams in Europe, Atlanta United FC star defensive specialist Miles Robinson is expected to be back with the team.
United FC Vice President Carlos Bocanegra said Robinson will remain a vital part of the team in the Major League Soccer 2022 season.
“Looking for him to have a big, big year next year for us and the national team,” Bocanegra said.
It was reported earlier that teams from Bundesliga and Premier Leagues are reportedly seeking the services of Robinson, who achieved a lot of milestones this year.
Two of the milestones of Robinson this year are making it to the United States Men’s Soccer Team (USMST) and getting a slot in the 2021 Major League Soccer All-Star Game.
As the year is about to close its door, Robinson is ending the year with a bang by getting one of the coveted slots in the 2021 MLS Best XI.
Robinson is picked as the starting defender on the list.
According to reports, the MLS Best XI is the second selection for Robinson since 2019.
The Best XI – recognizing the league’s top players at each position as determined by media, players, and club technical staff – features players from eight countries and five clubs, all of which qualified for the Audi 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs.
Robinson started 25 of his 26 MLS appearances in 2021 and was named to his first MLS All-Star team. The 24-year-old ranked second in MLS in duel success rate (min. 100 duels) at 66.83 % behind teammate Ezequiel Barco. In the 25 matches in which he played 90 minutes, Atlanta conceded an average of .92 goals per match and tallied nine clean sheets. He scored his first career MLS goal on Decision Day against FC Cincinnati and recorded his first MLS assist on May 29 against Nashville SC.
Robinson has 14 caps and three goals with the USMNT, earning his senior team debut on Sept. 6, 2019, in a friendly against Mexico. He made his first start and scored his first international goal in a 7-0 win against Trinidad and Tobago on Jan. 31, 2021. Robinson started all six matches and scored two goals at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup where he helped the U.S. secure five clean sheets and scored the game-winning goal in the final to defeat Mexico 1-0. The 24-year-old was also recently named to his first MLS All-Star team and has started 14 of his 15 MLS appearances in 2021.
