ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The dream of FC Barcelona to win the Champions League Championship remains alive after they beat Athletic Club 4-0 at home on February 27.
The win sees Xavi Hernandez’s team climb to fourth place in the standings with 45 points, 15 behind leaders Real Madrid and ahead of fifth-placed Atletico Madrid on goal difference in the hunt for Champions League qualification.
Earlier, France forward Ousmane Dembele has decided to stay with Barcelona for the rest of the year despite a pending offer from a Premier League club.
Earlier, Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez wants Dembele to decide now if he will resign with the team or not so that they can plan their options earlier.
At the moment, Dembele still has a six-month contract with the team.
It was also reported that Barcelona is also open to hearing trade offers for theUnited States Men’s Soccer Team (USMNT) defender Sergino Dest this January to help fund other signings.
Given the struggles the club has encountered finding new clubs for the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Samuel Umtiti, and Neto in recent transfer windows, sources said that Barca is now open to offers for players they previously wanted to keep.
Dest, 21, is someone who fits that category, with sources saying Bayern Munich is one of the clubs interested in the USMNT international.
Barca signed Dest from Ajax for €20 million in 2020, beating Bayern to his signature. The German club has remained in contact with the player since, though, and sounded out a loan move earlier this year with an option to make the deal permanent next summer for around €25m.
