ATLANTA, GEORGIA—Atlanta United FC’s 19-year-old defensive specialist George Belo is not only the future of his team but for the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) as well.
On Tuesday, Bello has made it to the list of the top 22 under 22 players in Major League Soccer.
Bello is ranked sixth in the list which was created by an expert panel consisting of analysts, MLS Player Department staff, and external media members.
The MLS panel described Bello as an attack-minded left-back that can unbalance opposing defenses with both overlapping and underlapping runs, capable of pinching into the middle or keeping his heels on the touchline.
Just on his fourth year in the United FC’s uniform, Bello is currently playing for USMNT in its World Cup Qualifying matches in Concacaf this October.
Bello has made three appearances for the USMNT, making his senior team debut against Trinidad and Tobago on Jan. 31, 2021. Most recently, Bello started two matches during the USMNT’s run to the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup title, including the 1-0 victory against Mexico in the final. The 19-year-old left-back this week became the first Atlanta Homegrown player to be named an MLS All-Star and has started 15 of his 16 MLS appearances in 2021.
