ATLANTA, GEORGIA—Our very own women soccer star Kelley O’Hara and the rest of the Team USA’s women’s soccer team (USWNT) are very focused on winning the women’s soccer gold in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
In a recent talk to the media, O’Hara said she and the rest of the USWNT are aiming to win the gold medal this year since they failed to win it in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
O’Hara said they are happy that their first game in the Olympics will be against their rival Sweden on July 21 at Tokyo Stadium.
She said Sweden eliminated them in the Rio Olympics and such loss still lingers on their memories and they want to avenge it this year.
“Just having that big let down from that loss and that being the least far we had gone in a tournament,” O’Hara said.
“And I think it stuck with this team, and I think we will use it as motivation in the World Cup and use it as motivation in these Olympics,” O’Hara added.
Despite their elimination in the 2016 Olympics, the USWNT remains the top favorite to win the Olympic medal this year unless Sweden will play spoiler once again.
