The aftermath of the storm is still being felt across regions, including Bulloch County and Statesboro, but the Eagles are stepping up. In collaboration with the Sun Belt Conference, Georgia Southern is supporting the *Eagles for Eagles Student Emergency Fund* to assist students facing difficulties during this time.
The Eagles (4-6-1, 1-1 SBC) broke their recent three-match losing streak in style last Thursday with a 2-0 victory over Arkansas State. Meredith Pugh and Claire Casey delivered early strikes in each half, while goalkeeper Quinn Wilson racked up five saves to secure a clean sheet. Georgia Southern will aim to ride that momentum into Thursday’s contest.
Coastal Carolina (4-4-3, 0-1-1 SBC) is coming off a 3-1 loss to James Madison but did earn a 1-1 tie against preseason Sun Belt favorites, Old Dominion. Historically, the Chanticleers hold a slight edge in the series with an 8-7-2 all-time record, but Georgia Southern has had the upper hand in recent meetings, winning the last three clashes.
In last year’s battle, the Eagles claimed a 2-1 win on the road in Conway, South Carolina. Coastal grabbed an early lead in the 23rd minute, but Bri Conley responded less than a minute later, and Simone Timm found the back of the net in the 72nd minute to secure the victory.
Georgia Southern dominated the Chanticleers in their most recent encounter at Bo Pitts Field in 2022, cruising to a 3-0 win. Maya Zovko, Elis Nemtsov, and Emma Armstrong all notched goals, while Katie Oakley held it down in goal with three saves for the shutout.
