The Georgia Southern Eagles put on a dominant display Sunday afternoon, cruising to a 2-0 victory over Jacksonville State at Bo Pitts Field. With two goals in the opening ten minutes, the Eagles secured their second consecutive clean sheet, leveling their season record at 3-3-1.
The Eagles wasted no time getting on the board, with freshman Claire Casey heading in a well-placed corner kick from Erin Wilkins just 58 seconds into the match. This marks Casey’s second straight game scoring from a header off a set piece, a growing strength for Georgia Southern this season.
Not long after, in the ninth minute, the Eagles struck again with a brilliant team play. Kendall Wilson made a surging run through the midfield and set up Kyleigh Drew, who laid it off to Bri Conley at the top of the box. Conley fired a shot past Jacksonville State’s keeper for her first goal of the season, giving Georgia Southern a commanding 2-0 lead.
Georgia Southern’s defense remained rock solid, allowing Jacksonville State just seven shots, three of which were on target. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Katie Oakley made three crucial saves to secure her second shutout of the year.
“We’re really proud of how we finished this one,” said head coach Chris Adams. “After learning from the Mercer game, where we let a 2-0 lead slip, the team showed great maturity today in closing out the match strong.”
The Eagles now prepare for two challenging road games as they face **Washington State** on Thursday in Athens, Georgia.
