In a tightly contested matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 9, the Georgia State Panthers fell 1-0 to James Madison at Sentara Park. Despite a determined effort, a 23rd-minute goal by JMU’s Ginny Lackey proved to be the game-winner.
Goalkeeper Jaddah Foos was a standout for the Panthers, making seven crucial saves to keep the match close, while Bree Barley led the Georgia State attack with two shots on goal.
A bright spot in the match came when senior defender Callee Maughon tied the Georgia State all-time appearance record, marking her 88th career match, an impressive milestone for the seasoned player.
James Madison capitalized on their early chance in the 23rd minute, and despite Georgia State’s best efforts, they couldn’t find the equalizer. The Panthers registered two shots on goal but struggled to break through the Dukes’ defense. Foos kept Georgia State in the game with her saves, facing 15 JMU shots, eight of which were on target.
