Atlanta’s soccer scene is buzzing with pride as five players with deep ties to Georgia have been called up to the U.S. Men’s National Team for their upcoming camp. The announcement, made Monday by the U.S. Soccer Federation, features familiar faces that Atlanta fans know and love.
Among the 24 players heading to Fort Lauderdale for the camp are former Atlanta United standouts Miles Robinson and George Campbell, along with local products Walker Zimmerman from Lawrenceville, Shaq Moore from Powder Springs, and Savannah’s own Indiana Vassilev. The camp kicks off Tuesday, preparing the squad for matches against Venezuela on January 18 in Fort Lauderdale and Costa Rica on January 22 in Orlando.
Atlanta’s Connection Runs Deep
Miles Robinson, a defensive powerhouse, was a cornerstone of Atlanta United with 123 appearances before moving to FC Cincinnati as a free agent last year. With 30 caps for the U.S., Robinson is a seasoned presence on the roster, and Atlanta fans will be cheering loudly for their former defender.
George Campbell, another centerback, honed his skills with Atlanta United before being traded to CF Montreal in 2023. This marks his first national team call-up, an exciting milestone for the 22-year-old who’s still making waves in the league.
Walker Zimmerman, a Lawrenceville native and Nashville SC stalwart, brings a wealth of experience with 41 U.S. appearances. Known for his leadership and rock-solid defending, Zimmerman’s inclusion showcases Georgia’s knack for producing top-tier talent.
Shaq Moore, from Powder Springs, has made 19 appearances for the U.S. A versatile fullback, Moore recently transitioned to FC Dallas, and his attacking flair and defensive grit make him a player to watch.
