ATLANTA, GEORGIA—In his first training session as the official head coach of Atlanta United FC on Tuesday, Gonzalo Pineda is happy with the energy and effort showed by the team.
Pineda also told the media that as of the moment he will make little tweaks on the plays of United FC, especially that the team is on a four-game winning streak.
“The last part of the season, I would say, I’d like to be consistent,” he said.
“I would like to maintain the same lineup and the same formation so the players can have some consistency and they can get more connections and get used to each other,” Pineda added.
Pineda also praised the great effort shown by interim coach Rob Valentino in the recent winning streak of the team.
“Rob has been fantastic with the players first, which is the most important one,” Pineda said.
Pineda earlier signed a three-year contract to coach United FC.
With the hiring of Pineda, Rob Valentino (assistant) and Liam Curran (goalkeeping) will stay on staff, while Pineda will bring on Diego de la Torre, who recently served as head coach at Cafetaleros de Chiapas in Mexico.
United FC president Darren Eales is very happy with the signing of Pineda and excited about the future of the team under Pineda.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Gonzalo as the head coach of Atlanta United,” Eales said.
“Building off an illustrious international playing career, Gonzalo joined Seattle’s coaching staff and played an integral role in the club’s success over the last few years,” Eales added.
The 38-year-old Pineda for his part is very happy with the trust given to him by United FC and he promised to do his best to bring a title to the team.
“This is truly the opportunity of a lifetime and I’m excited to become Atlanta United’s head coach,” Pineda said.
“I want to thank Arthur Blank, Steve Cannon, as well as Darren and Carlos for entrusting me in this position,” Pineda added.
