ATLANTA, GEORGIA—In their conference debut on the evening of September 17, the Georgia State University Panthers men’s soccer team was guided to victory by freshman midfielder Justin McLean. The Sun Belt Conference opener between Georgia State (6-0-1, 1-0) and James Madison Dukes (2-4, 0-1) was played in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

The Panthers took the lead with a goal from Simon Carlson in the seventh minute. After the first half, a successful penalty kick by the Dukes tied the game. McLean secured the victory in the second half by scoring two unanswered goals in the 72nd and 77th minutes.

The Panthers had five victories and one draw going into conference play. Their win on Saturday keeps them unbeaten. The Panthers will play the sixth-ranked Kentucky Wildcats at home on September 24 as they attempt to extend their winning run. The game will begin at 7 p.m. and is scheduled to air on ESPN+.
