ATLANTA, GEORGIA–The Georgia State University Panthers men’s soccer team is now back on the winning track once again.
Last October 9, the visiting Panthers beat the home team Akron 3-1 in a key Mid-American Conference match-up at FirstEnergy Stadium in Akron, Ohio.
Senior Salar Faryar scored a pair of goals less than 10 minutes apart to carry the Panthers to victory against the 13th ranked Akron team.
With the win, the Panthers improved to eight wins and three defeats.
Last October 7, the Panthers suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the home team No. 17 Bowling Green at the start of Mid-American Conference play at Cochrane Stadium.
The loss ended the four-game winning streak of the team.
Before their defeat, the Panthers beat the home team the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB) 3-1 on October 5 at BBVA Field.
The win is special for the Panthers since it is their 500th in program history.
The win also improved the Panthers’ record to 7-2 and improved to 5-1 on the road this season.
The five road wins are tied for the most in the country this year.
The winning goals of the Panthers were provided by junior Max Wilkins and seniors George Proctor and Salar Faryar.
Aside from the three strikers, goalkeeper Gunther Rankenburg also recorded four saves on the night giving him 26 on the year, the most of any goalkeeper in the MAC.
The Panthers hope to extend their winning streak to two when they host the ETSU on Tuesday night at 7 in the evening.
