ATLANTA, GEORGIA—Tuesday night’s game between the Panthers and Incarnate Word featured two goals from Max Wilkins, who contributed to the Panthers’ victory. Wilkins now has five goals on the season, which puts him in first place among the Panthers.

Wilkins scored two goals in a single game for the second time this season. The Panthers increased their record to 8-2-2 overall while dropping UIW to 0-11. In the Sun Belt, Georgia State is presently ranked third, behind No. 2 Kentucky and No. 4 Marshall. The first half was back and forth, but neither team managed to score. The full bus of five Cardinal defenders at the goal, which limited the Panthers to just seven shots in the first half, made it difficult for them to get by.

Georgia State improved its performance in the second half, dominating much of the possession and taking 13 shots overall—double the amount from the first—while restricting the Cardinals to just four. Ten minutes into the second half, Tristan Jumeau flipped the ball over the opposition for a cross that found Wilkins, who tapped it in for the Panthers’ first goal. The Panthers added another goal immediately after that. This time, Tom Williams’ left-footed volley off the far post into the goal. Iolo Jones provided his first season-opening assist on the goal.

The Cardinals would score one against the Panthers to take the lead within one. A short chain of events led to Wilkins scoring his second goal of the evening in response. After Justin McLean successfully reclaimed the ball in midfield, Mario Arrocha passed it to Wilkins, who connected with the ball and fired a goal-scoring rocket. Josue Hangi made his first appearance of the year in goal, finishing the game with three saves and one goal. On Saturday, October 15, the Panthers will play again in a midday game versus Liberty in Atlanta. The start time is 2 PM. and it won’t be broadcast on ESPN+.
