ATLANTA, GEORGIA—After four tries, the Georgia State University Panthers men’s soccer team finally won its first NCAA tournament match after a 1-0 win over the home team Charlotte at Transamerica Field on Thursday night.
Senior captain George Proctor scored the lone and winning goal for the Panthers in their morale-boosting win.
Proctor scored the memorable goal in the first half.
The win is sweet and memorable for the Panthers since it is their first win on their fifth NCAA Tournament.
Aside from Proctor, junior goalkeeper Gunther Rankenburg also played superbly for the team in their victory as he recorded his sixth shutout of the season.
The Panthers hope to sustain their winning run when they face No. 3-seed Georgetown on Sunday in Washington, D.C.
