ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The Georgia State University Panthers Women’s Soccer team got its eight-win 2-0 home victory against Troy on Sunday at the new GSU Soccer Facility.
The Panthers started strong in the game by out-shotting the Trojans 8-3 in the first half but the teams headed to halftime tied 0-0.
In the second half, Maddie Johnston and Bree Barley scored goals for the Panthers that lead to their victory.
Johnston netted her fourth goal of the season in the 50th minute to give the Panthers a 1-0 advantage.
Johnston used her left foot to beat the keeper and is now second on the team in goals scored.
The Panthers fended off an aggressive Trojan side in the second half and capitalized on a breakaway as Barley scored a rocket from around 30 yards out with her right foot, putting the game away at 2-0 in the 84th.
With their win, the team improved to 8-3-3 overall and 3-1-2 in the Sun Belt.
The Panthers hope to continue their winning ways when they host dangerous South Alabama on Friday at 7 p.m.
