ATLANTA, GEORGIA—Alondra Nieves, Bree Barley, and Maddie Johnston scored once as Georgia State women’s soccer defeated Coastal Carolina on the road to win the conference match. The Panthers improve to 5-1-5 overall for the season with the 3-1 victory over Sun Belt rival Conway.

With Nieves’ goal and Elena Diaz’s assist, GSU now leads 1-0. The campaign’s sophomore forward’s first goal came in the 20th minute. The Panthers gained a second point when Barley scored an unassisted goal in the 44th minute, giving them a 2-0 advantage. This year for GSU, the sophomore forward has hit on two goals.

In the 52nd minute, Johnston scored GSU’s third goal off an assist from Nieves to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead. This was his team-high fourth goal of the season. The junior is second on the club in that area with 17 shots this season to his credit. The Panthers won games 3-1 when Coastal Carolina scored in the 56th minute of play. Goalkeeper Jaddah Foos made two saves despite GSU’s seven shots for the game.

With the victory, GSU improves to 1-0-2 in SBC play. On Sunday, October 2, the Panthers are back at home and will face SBC for Troy for Senior Day. The game is slated to begin at noon. ET will be televised with live statistics on ESPN+.
