ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The visiting Georgia State University Panthers Women’s Soccer team successfully got a semifinal slot in the 2021 Sun Belt Championship after beating Appalachian State 2-1 in Foley, Alabama on Wednesday. Ranked third in the conference, the Panthers took advantage of their energy and drive to beat the 11-seeded Mountaineers in their quarterfinal duel.
Panthers Eva Diez Lois scored the two winning goals for her team in their win against the Mountaineers.
Before their game, the Panthers expressed confidence they will win since they have already beaten them on Sept. 26 in a regular-season contest in Boone, N.C., 1-0.
App State got the quarterfinals slot after they beat Texas State 2-1 on Monday.
Coming into the game, the Panthers also carries the longest unbeaten streak in the conference at eight matches and record the least amount of losses in the league.
The Panthers also boast of having First Team All-Sun Belt in Bree Barley, Brooklynn Fugel, and Lexie Knox.
With their quarterfinals win, the Panthers are set to face the winner of South Alabama and Little Rock in the semifinals on November 5.
