ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The visiting Georgia State University Panthers Women’s Soccer team hopes to get a semifinal slot in the 2021 Sun Belt Championship when they face Appalachian State in Foley, Alabama on Wednesday.
Ranked third in the conference, the Panthers are favored to beat the 11-seeded Mountaineers in their quarterfinal duel.
The Panthers are confident of beating App State since they have already beaten them on Sept. 26 in a regular-season contest in Boone, N.C., 1-0.
App State got the quarterfinals slot after they beat Texas State 2-1 on Monday.
Coming into the game, the Panthers carries the longest unbeaten streak in the conference at eight matches and recorded the least amount of losses in the league.
The Panthers also boast of having First Team All-Sun Belt in Bree Barley, Brooklynn Fugel, and Lexie Knox.
This was the most first-team selection for the Panthers since 1999.
A Panthers win would give them their fourth straight semifinals against the winner of South Alabama and Little Rock.
