When Jordan Brown stepped onto the field for the 2025 U.S. Women’s National Team Futures Camp, she wasn’t just representing the University of Georgia—she was proving that perseverance, talent, and an unwavering support system can take you to the top.
Invited by USWNT head coach Emma Hayes, Brown was one of only three goalkeepers across the country selected for the elite training camp held in Carson, California, from Jan. 14 to Jan. 21. But her road to this moment wasn’t paved overnight—it started years ago with a leap of faith, a fearless penalty save, and a powerful punt that changed everything.
A Goalkeeper by Chance, A Star by Choice
Growing up in Las Vegas, Brown’s introduction to goalkeeping was purely accidental. At just nine years old, she volunteered to step into goal so her club’s starting keeper could get time on the field. No one expected her to make an impact right away—until a penalty kick came her way.
“She saved the PK, and then she did this astronomical punt,” her mother, Leslie Brown, recalled. “All of a sudden, everyone was like ‘oh my gosh.’”
That moment was just the beginning. Brown became a dominant presence in goal at Faith Lutheran High School, where she led her team to a Nevada state championship and set multiple state records, including most shutouts in a season and most consecutive shutouts. Her talent was undeniable, and her high school coach, Bob Chinn, saw her future potential early on.
“Jordan has probably the strongest leg I’ve ever seen—or at least top three,” Chinn said. “You could tell right away she was going to be a special player.”
A Bulldog Through and Through
When it came time for college, Brown and her father Shannon Brown traveled over 2,000 miles from Las Vegas to Athens, Georgia, in 2021. The move turned out to be the perfect fit, and since joining the Georgia Bulldogs, Brown has made history.
Her accolades include All-SEC honors, SEC Defensive Player of the Week, and SEC Freshman of the Week. She even landed a spot on SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays. But perhaps her biggest team achievement came in 2023, when she helped lead the Bulldogs to their first-ever SEC championship.
Despite the success, Brown knows the pressure of expectations.
“Somebody else is always projecting who you are or who you should be,” Chinn said. “If Jordan stays Jordan, big things are ahead of her.”
Calm, Confident, and Ready for More
Brown’s journey hasn’t just been about physical ability—it’s about mentality. Off the field, she focuses on self-care, cooking, traveling, and meditation to stay balanced. Her approach to goalkeeping is rooted in calmness, confidence, and trust, especially with her teammates.
“She’s my blind side, so we’ve definitely developed trust in those tough situations,” said Cate Hardin, Brown’s center-back partner. “She does everything without complaining—laying her body on the line. … JB deserves everything that she gets.”
Looking Ahead: The Future is Bright
Being invited to the Futures Camp was another milestone, but Brown was the only player on the roster without prior experience with the U.S. Youth National Teams. Still, she never let that shake her confidence.
“I reminded myself that I was there for a reason and that I did belong,” Brown said.
So what’s next for the standout goalkeeper?
“Elevating,” Brown said. “Continuing to rise.”
And if her journey so far is any indication, she’s just getting started.
