ATLANTA, GEORGIA—Barcelona players are put in the spotlight for the wrong reasons of possible COVID-19 protocol violation.
La Liga is now investigating Barcelona players for alleged breached of coronavirus regulations by attending a lunch at Lionel Messi’s house on Monday.
According to reports from the Catalan media, local officials are investigating if the event could have infringed restrictions in place in the region.
Based on the COVID-18 restrictions in Catalan, people are allowed to meet in Catalonia, outside or inside, but only in groups of up to six.
Sources said Messi conducted the team lunch at his property in Castelldefels as Barca prepare for this weekend’s top-of-the-table clash against Atletico Madrid.
Reports coming from the Barca camp deny such COVI-19 protocol violation yarn saying the players and their partners spent the afternoon outside and at separate tables, respecting social distancing regulations laid out by La Liga.
A spokesperson from Barca also denies receiving any notification of an investigation from La Liga or local authorities.
Meanwhile, Pere Aragones, the vice president of the Catalan government, for his part took some potshots at the Barcelona players saying those in the public eye should lead by example with regards to COVID-19 protocols.
