Jaedyn Shaw was a last-minute injury scratch on Thursday from the U.S. women’s national team roster. Ninety minutes prior to kickoff, Soccer announced that the forward had suffered a leg injury and that Croix Bethune, the backup, would take his place for the match against Zambia.

The federation doesn’t “believe it’s serious,” the source added. Shaw was hurt during Wednesday’s training session; no more information about the ailment was disclosed in the release.

Following the game, coach Emma Hayes will probably talk about Shaw’s condition. Hayes undoubtedly has high aspirations for the 19-year-old, but Shaw most likely wouldn’t have started against Zambia.

Shaw made a fast impression after receiving her maiden cap in October of last year. In her meager 16 appearances for the national team, she has already scored seven goals and earned the Golden Ball in the women’s Gold Cup. She will likely compete in her first big competition at this Olympics. The midfielder Bethune has already played for the national squad twice.
