ATLANTA, GEORGIA—After some lackluster games, Argentine soccer superstar Lionel Messi finally nail his first goal in Ligue 1 in the 3-1 home win of Paris Saint-Germain over Nantes on November 20.
Messi found the back of the net with a curled left-footed effort from outside the box three minutes from time, adding to Dennis Appiah’s own goal after Randal Kolo Muani had canceled out Kylian Mbappe’s first-half opener.
With their win, PSG got 37 points from 14 games ahead of a Champions League trip to Manchester City on Wednesday, while Nantes are 11th on 18 points.
In signing his PSG contract, Messi is expected to earn between €30-35 million ($35-41m) net a year.
PSG was able to contact Messi on August 4 after his supposed five-year contract with Barca fell due to economic problems.
Now that Messi is a PSG player, it would increase the likelihood of Mbappe, who is out of contract next summer, signing a new long-term deal with the club.
