ATLANTA, GEORGIA—Some of the top young stars of Atlanta United, all of whom are natives here, namely Caleb Wiley, Ajani Fortune, Vicente Reyes, and Jon Villal, received invitations to play for their respective countries in September. Wiley will play for the US U-20s in the Revelations Cup, where they will face Peru, Mexico, and Paraguay.
This will be America’s U-20s’ first matches since their outstanding performance at the 2022 Concacaf U-20 Championship, where Tyler Wolff and the USA won their third straight regional title and qualified for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the 2024 Olympics.
Ajani Fortune, Vicente Reyes, and Jonantan Villal of Atlanta United 2 have all been called up by their national federations for the September FIFA window. Fortune, the 2s captain, will represent Trinidad and Tobago at Thailand’s 2022 King’s Cup. The team’s first appearance in the King’s Cup will be against Tajikistan on Thursday, September 22nd, and will last until the 25th. The midfielder has started 15 consecutive games for head coach Jack Collison, recording his first professional assist on Aug. 27 against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
Vicente Reyes returns to Chile’s U-20 squad for the Costa Cálida Supercup, which will be held in San Pedro del Pinatar, Spain, from September 17 to 27. Reyes has had a strong season with the 2s, logging 1,170 minutes in 13 games. His 67 saves and save rate of 67.7% are also club records.
From September 21 to 25, Villal rejoins Mexico’s U-18 squad in Zlin, Czech Republic, to face Finland, Slovakia, and Germany. The midfielder has three assists this season, making him one of only three ATL UTD 2 players to register multiple assists in a game this season. These call-ups will almost certainly keep the 2s players out of Saturday’s match against The Miami FC and the midweek match against Indy Eleven.
