Atlanta Soccer News

ATLANTA, GA — June 25, 2025 — Atlanta United is set to receive a slight boost to its matchday roster ahead of Wednesday’s road fixture against Columbus Crew at Lower.com Field. Defender Nyk Sessock and winger Edwin Mosquera are both expected to be available for selection as the team looks to bounce back from recent struggles.

Reinforcements on Deck

Atlanta United 2 defender Nyk Sessock has signed his third Short-Term Agreement (STA) of the 2025 season. Under MLS rules, a club can sign a player from its MLS NEXT Pro affiliate up to four times on STAs, allowing them to participate in no more than two league matches. Sessock, who made his senior debut in the June 12 loss to New York City FC, has one more appearance eligibility remaining under this arrangement.

Meanwhile, Edwin Mosquera was omitted from the club’s availability report on Tuesday, signaling that he may return to action following an injury-plagued start to the season. Head coach Ronny Deila noted that Mosquera is not yet ready to start but could feature as a substitute. His most notable contribution this season was a game-winning goal off the bench in the opener against CF Montréal.

Injury Woes Persist

Despite the returns of Sessock and Mosquera, Atlanta United continues to deal with a significant injury list. Midfielder Ajani Fortune has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to a foot injury sustained while playing for Trinidad and Tobago in the Gold Cup. Key defender Stian Gregersen remains sidelined with a quadriceps injury that has kept him out for over two months. Derrick Williams (foot) is expected to miss at least two more weeks after his June 12 injury. Midfielder Tristan Muyumba, although seen in training, will not be part of the squad due to ongoing knee issues. Additional absences include Josh Cohen (arm) and Cayman Togashi (knee).
