In a fiery in-state rivalry matchup, Mercer women’s soccer came out on top, defeating Georgia State 3-1 under the lights at Betts Stadium. From start to finish, the Bears were in control, delivering a strong performance that sent a clear message to their Panther rivals.
The action started in the 21st minute when Kindle Cook found JM in the box, who coolly slotted home Mercer’s first goal, giving the Bears an early 1-0 lead. But they weren’t done yet—JM returned just moments later, weaving through the defense and launching a shot. Georgia State’s goalkeeper made the initial save, but Sarah was right there to pounce, doubling Mercer’s lead with a well-placed follow-up.
The Bears didn’t let up in the second half. Feeling in control, Mercer worked their way upfield with precision. Anna Bachman connected with Larkin Thomas, who finished with ease to give the Bears a commanding 3-0 lead.
Georgia State, however, refused to go down without a fight. The Panthers’ standout player, I. Do, came through in the second half, finding the back of the net to avoid a shutout and inject some life into her team. But it wasn’t enough, as Mercer held on to secure a 3-1 victory.
