ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The two best defensive specialists of Atlanta United FC are nominated to two categories in the 2021 US soccer player awards.
Miles Robinson who is having a banner 2021 Major League Soccer season is one of the six nominees for the US male soccer player of the year.
Robinson has 14 caps and three goals with the United States Men’s Soccer Team (USMNT), earning his senior team debut on Sept. 6, 2019, in a friendly against Mexico. He made his first start and scored his first international goal in a 7-0 win against Trinidad and Tobago on Jan. 31, 2021. Robinson started all six matches and scored two goals at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup where he helped the U.S. secure five clean sheets and scored the game-winning goal in the final to defeat Mexico 1-0. The 24-year-old was also recently named to his first MLS All-Star team and has started 14 of his 15 MLS appearances in 2021.
Aside from Robinson, George Bello is also nominated for the US young male soccer player of the year.
Bello who is also having a great MLS season is nominated to the category along with four other players.
Bello, 19, has made five appearances for the USMNT, making his senior team debut against Trinidad and Tobago on Jan. 31, 2021. Bello started two matches during the USMNT’s run to the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup title, including the 1-0 victory against Mexico in the final. Most recently, Bello started two Concacaf qualification matches for the 2022 FIFA World Cup against Honduras on Sept. 9 and Panama on Oct. 11.
