ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) men’s soccer team made up mostly of players from Major League Soccer started strong in the 2021 Gold Cup by beating the visiting Haiti 1-0 on July 11 at the Children’s Mercy Park Kansas City.
Playing in front of its fans, USMNT started strong in the game and scored a goal in the 8′ minute from Sam Vines, who plays for the Colorado Rapids of MLS.
Vines who scored his first-ever goal for the U.S. at the senior international level is very happy with his performance in the game.
The visitor tried its best to equalize the score but the USMNT defense is hard to penetrate until the final buzzer.
Part of the starting 11 of the USMNT in the game is Atlanta United FC defensive specialist Miles Robinson.
Aside from Robinson, two other United FC players are also part of this year’s USMNT roster for the Gold Cup.
Veteran goalkeeper Brad Guzan and George Bello are also part of USMNT that will compete in the Gold Cup from July 10-August 1.
According to reports, the 59 players in the provisional roster were trimmed down to the final 23-man team who will train for one to two weeks before the tournament.
Guzan, 36 is tagged as one of the most senior members of the team.
The veteran United goalkeeper has 64 international appearances, became Tim Howard’s backup at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups, and started at the 2016 Copa America.
The last time he played for the US was in the 2019 exhibition game against Uruguay.
The USMNT hopes to continue its winning ways when they host Martinique on July 16.
