Atlanta United, who has lost their last seven MLS games, will try to turn things around versus Nashville as they battle through this difficult run of play.
They just suffered a 1-0 setback against FC Cincinnati, an opponent in the Eastern Conference. To get to the, the 5-Stripes have only defeated Charlotte Independence of USL League One, their only victory since late March. Nashville SC has experienced its own set of difficulties this season. Their current season record is at 3-4-5 after they have won two of their previous five games.
The intense rivalry between the two clubs has further intensified as a result of their thrilling clashes. Against Nashville, Atlanta’s record is 3-4-3 (W-L-D). The most noteworthy triumph for the 5-Stripes came in August 2023 when Atlanta defeated Nashville SC 4-0 to inflict the team’s worst-ever loss.
Dax McCarty, a midfield player for Atlanta United currently, was acquired from Nashville SC during the off-season. Having played for Nashville since their first season, he is one of the players who is most familiar with the rich relationship between the two teams.
Players to watch
Dax McCarty (Atlanta United): McCarty earned his third start of the season—his second in Major League Soccer—on Wednesday against FC Cincinnati. With more than 400 games played in Major League Soccer, he is an experienced player that instills confidence in Atlanta’s midfield.
Regarding McCarty, Pineda remarked, “He brings experience.” However, the leadership is what’s really important. He is, in my opinion, the team’s real leader. He’s been outstanding. For the benefit of the team, he is prepared to go above and beyond. Hence, he is supported by the players in his immediate vicinity. However, I believe he is an excellent football player.
Sam Surridge (Nashville, SC) is leading Nashville in scoring, only one week after recording a game-winning hat trick against CF Montreal. In the club’s history, he is the only other player to have scored a hat trick. So far this season, he has scored five goals in total.
