ATLANTA — Let the spark return! Atlanta United is turning up the tempo just in time for a tough road stretch, and winger Edwin Mosquera is back in the mix. After weeks on the mend from an ankle injury suffered March 16 against Inter Miami, the Colombian speedster is officially off the injury list and ready to roll.
Mosquera’s return couldn’t come at a better time. He was electric in the 5-Stripes’ season opener, needing just three touches and seven minutes to deliver a match-winning golazo that earned him AT&T Goal of the Matchday honors—and gave Atlanta their first three points of 2025. That spark? It might be just what Atlanta needs as they head north to face Philadelphia Union on Saturday.
Head coach Ronny Deila, speaking after training Thursday, highlighted the importance of wingers in his system: “They have to have legs, and they have to run.” Mosquera checks both boxes. Back in full training this week, he didn’t miss a beat—scoring in mini-games, covering ground like a machine, and looking every bit the threat Atlanta fans remember.
The timing is crucial. The 5-Stripes haven’t scored from open play in over 180 minutes, and Mosquera’s pace, creativity, and fearlessness could be the jolt the attack needs.
While Atlanta gets Mosquera back, they’ll still be without center back Derrick Williams, who continues to rehab a hamstring injury. He’s the lone player listed on Friday’s lightest availability report of the season—a promising sign as Atlanta gears up for a challenging run that includes four of their next five matches on the road.
