WHAT A NIGHT AT THE BENZ, ATLANTA! Down 2-1 late, our Five Stripes showed incredible heart, grit, and a touch of magic to snatch a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory against Orlando City! You absolutely love to see it!
Coach Deila said it best: “We kept believing. In the end, in the second half we were so dominant that they couldn’t cope with it… Being average is boring, so I want to see more personality, more togetherness, more energy, take our fantastic fans with us.” And that’s exactly what we saw!
What Went Down in the Thriller:
We started a bit slow defensively, and Orlando capitalized early, César Araújo putting them ahead in the 4th minute. But our boys responded! In the 19th minute, Alexey Miranchuk pounced on a deflected ball and thumped it home for a well-deserved equalizer! Saba Lobjanidze’s work down the right was crucial in the build-up!
Saba was looking dangerous, nearly putting us ahead in the 25th, but his shot went just high. Then, in the 32nd minute, a defensive miscue allowed Ramiro Enrique to put Orlando back in the lead. Guzan made a big save right before halftime to keep it at 2-1.
The second half saw a more determined Atlanta! Guzan made another key save early on. We had plenty of possession but struggled to find that clear opening. Deila made some key subs, bringing on Klich, Amador, and Thiaré to change the game.
Then came the turning point in the 77th minute! Araújo saw red for putting his hands on Klich’s neck! With the man advantage, Deila went for it, bringing on Mosquera for Abram.
And then, the MAGIC! In the 83rd minute, Bartosz Slisz received the ball at the edge of the box and unleashed an absolute SCREAMER, curling it off the left post and in! The Benz ERUPTED! And bizarrely, the Orlando coach was also sent off in the aftermath!
But the drama wasn’t over! In the 95th minute, super sub Jamal Thiaré did it AGAIN! Saba flicked a ball over the top, and Thiaré was there to tap it past the keeper for the WINNER! The stadium went absolutely WILD! 3-2!
Even with a late push from Orlando, our boys held strong to secure a massive rivalry victory!
Key Stat and Standouts: Our midfield was on fire! Miranchuk (goal, two assists) and Slisz (a stunning goal) were everywhere and had four goal contributions between them!
