ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The year 2021 is not a good year for Brazilian soccer superstar Neymar in terms of performance as a member of the Paris Saint-Germain team.
Neymar used to be a beats in Ligue 1 with incredible stats, averaging almost a goal per game (56 in 70 matches in his first four seasons in France) and being involved in more than a goal per game (87 goals and assists over that same period).
However, after a quarter of the 2021-22 season, his stats paint a very different story.
One goal in six league games and 495 minutes played, with two assists and only three big chances created overall.
The struggles of Neymar are also pointed as one of the top reasons why PSG is struggling this year.
Recently, French soccer superstar Kylian Mbappe has brushed aside his reported feud with teammate Neymar.
The feud reportedly started after he called the Brazilians soccer star a “tramp” in the team’s 2-0 win over Montpellier last month.
Mbappe admitted uttering the word but he already talk to Neymar about it and both of them have mutual admiration for each other’s talent.
“Yes, yes, I said it. Now these are things which happen all the time in football. It just needs to be something that doesn’t linger,” he said. “That’s why, right after, given how it blew up, I spoke to him about it,” Mbappe said.
He said exchanging harsh words is normal between them since they are both competitive.
“We’ve exchanged a lot of words like that in the past and we’ll continue to do so, because we want to win, but there shouldn’t be any hard feelings. There is no resentment at all because I respect the player and the man and I admire what he is,” Mbappe added.
In signing his PSG contract, Argentine soccer superstar Lionel Messi is expected to earn between €30-35 million ($35-41m) net a year.
PSG was able to contact Messi on August 4 after his supposed five-year contract with Barca fell due to economic problems.
