ATLANTA, GEORGIA—If he will have his way, Brazilian soccer superstar Neymar wants to face former FC Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi in the Copa America final.
Neymar, a forward from Brazil made the statement after his team beat Peru 1-0 in Monday’s semifinal in Rio de Janeiro to advance to the finals of Copa America this year.
Brazil won their semifinals game after Lucas Paqueta scored for his team in the 35th minute.
Messi and the Argentine soccer team will face Colombia on Tuesday in the other semifinal match-up.
“I want Argentina, I am cheering them on,” Neymar said with a smile.
“I have friends there and in final Brazil will win,” Neymar added.
Both Neymar and Messi are having a great Copa America tournament so far as Neymar scored two goals and had three assists, while Messi has four goals and four assists.
If Argentina comes out victorious on Tuesday, it will have its hand full against Brazil the defending champion who is also playing at home.
Like Neymar, Messi is also very focused on winning the Copa America trophy this year since he wants to win the first major trophy since 1993 Copa America.
