ATLANTA, GEORGIA—In their final game of the regular season, Simon Carlson scores the final goal for the Georgia State Panthers men’s soccer to help secure a 3-2 victory over Old Dominion. The Panthers placed third in the Sun Belt after concluding the regular season 11-3-3 and 4-2-2 in conference play, trailing only national rankings #2 Kentucky and #5 Marshall.

In the 12th minute, Evan Schroeder gave the Panthers the lead with a header off a Carlson corner kick. Georgia State would have three more shots on goal, but the halftime score would still be 1-0. Jack Hilton-Jones scored 12 minutes into the second half for the Panthers to make it 2-0. After a corner kick that initially found Hilton-Jones but was deflected to Wilkins, the goal was scored. Hilton-Jones again connected with the ball for the goal, Wilkins’ effort deflecting off the crossbar.

The score was within one until Old Dominion scored in the 59th minute. In the 64th minute, Carlson responded with a goal of his own to restore a two-goal advantage. Carlson was wide open when Ramon Munoz fired the ball to him. Carlson outran the defender in the box and scored the goal under the keeper’s leg. With his seventh goal of the year, Carlson currently leads the Panthers in goals.

The Panthers won after the Monarchs scored the game’s final goal and tried to tie it, but they were unsuccessful. As the #3 seed in the Sun Belt Conference Championship, the Panthers will go to Huntington, West Virginia. At 7 o’clock, they’ll play Old Dominion once more. Sunday evening.
