The Georgia State Panthers couldn’t overcome an early deficit, falling 3-1 to Memphis on Sunday at the GSU Soccer Complex. While Matthew Taylor netted a late goal for the Panthers, it wasn’t enough to counter the Tigers’ commanding start.
The Tigers struck early with a goal in the sixth minute by Lleyton Imparato, who was set up by Anders Bordoy. Memphis kept the pressure on, doubling their lead in the 14th minute thanks to Lucho Galizzi. Despite strong efforts from Georgia State, the Panthers struggled to find their rhythm in the first half.
Memphis extended their lead to 3-0 in the 70th minute when Logan Longo, capitalized on another assist from Imparato. Georgia State showed resilience, however, with Matthew Taylor scoring his second goal of the season in the 81st minute, assisted by Cole Biasi, marking Biasi’s first career assist.
In terms of defense, Josue Hangi stood tall for Georgia State, making five saves on 15 Memphis shots. Despite the loss, the Panthers’ grit was on full display as they continue to push through a tough start to the season, now sitting at 1-3-1 overall.
