Silverbacks forward Joao Johanning Mora was awarded the Mitre National Player of the Week in the NPSL on Wednesday following his terrific performance against FC Carolina United last Saturday night. He’s the first Atlanta player to claim this award this year, and the star attacker certainly earned it.

After a back-and-forth start to the match in Charlotte, Joao netted two first half goals and led the team to a 2-2 halftime score. After the defense clamped down in the second 45 minutes, Johanning Mora struck a third time to retake the lead. His hat trick helps him assume the team lead in goals scored this season. Finally, newcomer Keka got his first goal of the season to polish off the 4-2 win.

“All I can say is that Joao was on fire from the start [on Saturday],”said Atlanta head coach Phoday Dolleh. “He was mentally prepared to play and his teammates made it east for him. Joao is unstoppable when he comes to play.”

“Like I said, it’s been about the team mentality,” said Joao, stealing the spotlight on Saturday. “I came to play for my teammates and we got the win, most importantly. An award like this wouldn’t be possible without my teammates, coaches, and our fans.”

Joao and the squad have a quick turnaround as they will travel to Knoxville to take on the Force this Thursday night. Be sure to follow the Silverbacks on all social platforms to keep up with the match!
