ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The management of Paris Saint-Germain is confident French striker Kylian Mbappe will sign a short-term contract extension with the team once his contract ends in June.
Sources said the family of Mbappe is talking with PSG for a possible contract extension.
PSG is also positive about keeping the World Cup winner since the latter has found a role with the club.
As of late, Mbappe has become an integral leader in the squad and the player who makes the difference for PSG.
The forward has been one of the standout performers for PSG this season despite the lack of collective structure in the team.
Earlier, after helping PSG beat fourth-tier Vannes 4-0 with his hat trick, Mbappe, 23 is now the team’s all-time 3rd leading scorer.
Since he became part of PSG, Mbappe already scored 150 goals which are just six goals behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the player in second place on the list.
Ibrahimovic scored 156 goals in 180 games during his stint in Paris, which means Mbappe will almost certainly overtake the Swede’s total before the end of the season.
Edinson Cavani remains PSG’s all-time top goalscorer with 200 goals in 301 games before leaving to join Manchester United, but if Mbappe maintains his current prolific scoring rate — scoring six goals in his past three games, and seven of PSG’s past 10 goals in all competitions — then there’s an outside chance he could also topple his old teammate, too.
The win over Vannes is huge for PSG since it towed them into Coupe de France last 16.
Earlier, sources said PSG has rejected the €160 million ($188m) offer of La Liga team Real Madrid for Mbappe.
The Sources added that PSG is only keen to release Mbappe if Real Madrid will reportedly increase its offer to €200m ($235m).
