ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The days of Eden Hazard as a member of the Real Madrid could end soon after many fans of the widely popular Spanish soccer club were not happy with his photo laughing and joking with Chelsea players following his team’s exit from the Champions League.
Many Real Madrid fans were offended by the laughing gesture of Hazard who previously played for Chelsea and they all showed it on social media.
It can be recalled that camera footage has shown the Belgium international laughing with former teammate Kurt Zouma and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy on the Stamford Bridge pitch after Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat.
Before signing with Real Madrid in 2019, Hazard played for seven seasons with Chelsea.
Because of the deluge of backlash from Real Madrid on social media, Hazard has issued an apology on Instagram on Thursday.
In his Instagram account, Hazard said “I am sorry. I have read lots of opinions about me today and it was not my intention to offend the Real Madrid fans.
It has always been my dream to play for Real Madrid and I came here to win. The season is not over and together we must now battle for La Liga! Hala Madrid!”
According to media reports, the anger of the fans has extended to several club members and even the changing room.
Since becoming a member of the Real Madrid, Hazard has played only 37 games in two seasons and has suffered 11 injuries since his arrival.
Due to the anger of the fans, some Spanish media hinted that the 30-year-old professional soccer could be cut by the team this year.
