The most wonderful time of the year is fast approaching! Despite all of the circumstances surrounding this year, Christmas is the time to end the year on a positive note. What better way is there to spread positive energy and happiness than through soccer? Soccer has been a pillar of hope and joy for people worldwide.
In line with the spirit of the Christmas season, the annual St. Nicholas Charity soccer event will be held on Sunday, December 6, 2020. Registration is now open!
The 2020 St. Nicholas Charity Soccer Event raises funds and donations to fill the shelves of the Must Ministries Toy Shop. Through donations, parents of over 4,000+ children are able to shop at one of the MUST Toy Shops. Children in Cherokee and Cobb counties receive toys, blankets, hats, scarves, gloves, underwear, socks, and a family game. Must Ministries has been helping needy and displaced families across Cobb and Cherokee County for nearly 50 years.
To participate in the event, each player needs to make a donation. Donations can be new and unwrapped gifts or toys worth at least $25, or a monetary donation. Donations can also be clothes, sports equipment, beauty/shaving kits, etc. When players check-in, they must turn in their donation or $25 cash before their first game and cannot participate unless they do so. The event consists of multiple teams across multiple divisions, so players who want to compete in multiple divisions must have the appropriate amount of donations as well.
There should be no need to worry about the safety of the event during this pandemic. Upon several consultations and multiple meetings, CASL/NWYMCA has been given the go-ahead signal to host the event at Hubert Park. The CASL/NWYMCA made it clear that their main priority will be the participants’ safety, so they will be strictly following all guidelines posted by the state of Georgia and Cobb County.
The St. Nicholas Charity Soccer Event was created to ensure that needy children and their families have a wonderful Christmas, while also enjoying the camaraderie of playing games with friends and other soccer enthusiasts as well. Giving back is what Christmas is all about and being a part of this event is a wonderful way to spread love and generosity in a unique way. It’s a great opportunity to be a part of something special, whether as a player or a spectator.
