Anton Walkes, a former player of Atlanta United, has passed away following a tragic boating accident. The 22 year old defender had been on loan to Glasgow since February with the hope of making an eventual return to Major League Soccer (MLS). Unfortunately, his life was cut short in a freak accident when the vessel he was on collided with a large wave.
Anton Walkes had become an integral part of Atlanta United’s defence since his arrival in 2016, helping the team to secure several important victories. He was known for being especially composed when under pressure, and never shying away from making tackles to win back possession. Off the pitch, he was an avid fisherman, often taking trips out on the lake to relax.
The entire MLS community is mourning this great loss and sending their condolences to friends and family of Anton Walkes. He will be remembered for his dedication and commitment, both on and off the pitch, as well as for his positive attitude towards life. In light of his passing, Atlanta United has set up a memorial fund to honor his memory and provide support to his loved ones.
