Georgia Southern’s women’s soccer team fell short in a tightly contested match against Samford, with the Bulldogs claiming a 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon. The lone goal came in the 24th minute, handing Samford (3-5-1) the victory and maintaining their unbeaten streak against their former SoCon rivals. The Eagles (3-5-1) now shift their focus to Sun Belt Conference play.
The match was even throughout, with both teams tallying 12 shots apiece, but Samford found the back of the net thanks to **Sarah Holland’s** strike from inside the box, assisted by Caroline Donovan. Georgia Southern goalkeeper Katie Oakley made two saves, while Samford’s Emma Donley stopped four shots to preserve the clean sheet.
Georgia Southern had its chances early, with Meredith Pugh and Carley Borgelt firing attempts in the first 15 minutes, but neither could capitalize. Despite outpacing the Bulldogs with a 5-2 edge in corner kicks and forcing 17 fouls, the Eagles couldn’t convert those opportunities into goals.
