ATLANTA, GEORGIA—Manchester City star striker Sergio Aguero has expressed willingness for a pay cut so that he plays alongside good friend and countryman Lionel Messi for FC Barcelona.
Aguero, 32 made the statement after Barca officials expressed willingness to hire him to play alongside Messi, whose contract with the Spanish football club is set to end on June 30.
While Messi, 33 has yet to state a contract extension with Barca, the Catala club is confident the Argentine football superstar will sign a two-year contract extension with them.
Barca also expressed joy with the pay-cut statement of Aguero and such willingness to sacrifice his pay could land him a contract with Barca this summer.
According to reports, aside from Aguero, Barca has also expressed desires to sign this summer Lyon’s Memphis Depay.
Barca is very interested to hire the services of Depay, 27 since the latter scored 21 goals in Ligue 1 this season and is more versatile than Aguero.
Professional soccer experts said any between Aguero and Depay could greatly help Barca especially if the team can keep the services of its long-time superstar Messi.
