The U-15 and U-17 Academy squads of Atlanta United traveled to Florida to commence the 2024 Generation adidas Cup. They were two of the eighty-odd youth teams from around the globe who took part in the tournament’s group stage.

The U-15 team’s first game in the competition was against Manchester United on March 30. Because some of the games will be available on Apple TV via MLS Season Pass, fans were able to view them.

Atlanta got out to a fast start, as Ivory Covington scored the game’s first goal two minutes in. Then Atlanta doubled the score six minutes later. They had a 3-0 lead at the break. Atlanta easily defeated Manchester United 4-0, with two goals from Covington in the final moments of play. In the under-15 age level, the victory represented the biggest margin of victory achieved by an MLS club over an overseas team.

In a more difficult match on day two of the GA Cup, the U-15 team lost narrowly 3-2 against St. Louis CITY SC. The U-15s qualified for the competition’s Championship stage after finishing the group play stage as one of the top 16 teams. On day three, they got back to winning with a defensively sound 1-0 victory over Los Angeles FC.

The U-17s lost 1-0 to Brazilian team Flamengo as they began their first day of play. They fared better on the second day of the competition, defeating St. Louis CITY SC 1-0 and keeping a clean sheet.

The U-17s and Portland Timbers drew throughout regulation on the last day of the group stage, resulting in a penalty kick shootout to decide the winner. Atlanta defeated the Timbers 5–4 in the shootout.
The Championship bracket is the next phase of the competition for the U-15 team after group play. On April 3 at 9:30 a.m., they will play Inter Miami CF in the Round of 16. They will play the winner of Valencia CF (a Spanish La Liga team) and Orlando City SC if they proceed.

After qualifying for the Premier Bracket, the U-17 team will play Club Necaxa, a Liga MX club, on April 3 at 2:00 p.m. during the Round of 16. In the following round, if they advance, they will take on the victor of the LAFC and Minnesota United.
