ATLANTA, GEORGIA—Spain forward Alvaro Morata has told the media that he and his family especially his kids are receiving threats due to his lackluster performance in the ongoing Euro 2020.
Morata, a striker of Juventus said fans of Spain were not happy when he misses the chance for a goal in his team’s opening 0-0 draw with Sweden at Seville’s La Cartuja stadium.
The Spanish soccer star said fans were also not happy after he failed to score with a spot-kick himself in a 5-0 win over Slovakia on Wednesday.
He said getting criticized for his performance is okay but to receive threats especially to his children is not right.
“I understand I get criticism for not scoring goals. I’m the first to know and accept it,” Morata said.
“I wish people would put themselves in the position of seeing what it is to receiving threats and insults to your family”, Morata added.
Despite his performance, Spanish coach Luis Enrique still defended Morata, 28 since the latter has scored 20 goals for Spain in 43 appearances.
