Director of Athletics Brian Mackin announced that Stefani Workman, the head coach of the UNC Greensboro women’s soccer team, has been hired as the head coach of the Spartan program and that the interim tag has been removed from her title.
In the 36-year history of the Spartan women’s soccer program, Workman will be the first female head coach and the fifth overall.
Workman’s first head coaching opportunity came in 2005, and this will be her second tenure. From 2010 to 14, she served as the head coach at Concord University, an NCAA Division II program in Athens, West Virginia.
After being hired as an assistant coach in July 2017 and then elevated to associate head coach in March 2022, Workman has spent seven years with the Spartans.
The Poca, West Virginia native moved to Greensboro after working as the University of Dayton’s recruiting coordinator and assistant coach for two years. Workman worked for one season as an assistant at the University of Georgia before coming to Dayton. She served as goalkeeper coach at West Virginia University in 2008 and 2009 before taking on the role of head coach at Concord University from 2010 to 2014. At the University of Cincinnati, she served as an assistant coach before starting her coaching career in 2005.
Workman began each of her four seasons as a goalie while she was a player at Morehead State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science in 2005.
