ATLANTA, GEORGIA—Beating New York City FC at the Yankee Stadium on Nov. 21 at 3:00 p.m. EST. will be a huge challenge for the visiting Atlanta United FC in their first playoff match-up in Major League Soccer Eastern Conference.
To beat the fourth-seeded New York, United FC must make sure it should limit or stop the scoring ways MLS 2021 Golden Boot winner Valentín Castellanos.
Castellanos has been phenomenal this year as far as scoring goals is concerned with 19 goals in the regular season, including the equalizer for NYCFC on Decision Day.
Aside from Castellanos, the fifth-seeded United FC must also find ways to stop midfield maestro Maxi Moralez. The Argentine completed his fifth season with NYCFC after joining in 2017 and once again produced double-digit assists with 11 in 2021. He has produced 60 assists since joining NYCFC in MLS regular season play, which is the most of any league player during that period.
The United FC defensive specialists must make sure both Castellanos and Moralez cannot score at will in their game.
United FC must also continue to take advantage of its transition options, free-flowing offense, and give more plays for Brazilian striker Luiz Araújo and Venezuelan star striker Josef Martinez.
United FC midfielders midfielder Ezequiel Barco and Marcelino Moreno must also continue to find ways to score and create plays for the team.
On the defensive end, Miles Robinson, George Bello, and Brad Guzan must also continue to hold the fork.
If United FC wins it will face No. 1 seed and Supporters’ Shield champion New England Revolution in the conference semifinals.
