It’s a unique week for our boys, diving into their first midweek match of the 2025 season! Tonight, they face Austin FC for only the second time ever, and it’s our inaugural trip to their Q2 Stadium! But the Texas welcome comes with a scorcher – triple-digit heat is expected, which is why that kickoff got bumped to 9 p.m. ET!
To battle both the heat and a tough Western Conference opponent, fresh legs will be key. The team is desperate to snap that six-game winless streak and finally grab their first road victory since way back on March 22nd in Cincinnati!
Coach Deila laid it out plain and simple on Monday: “We are still having an aim for the season… Our chance is now on Wednesday.”
However, the road ahead in Austin just got a bit tougher. We’ll be heading into the heat of Texas without a couple of key starters in our defense. Both Pedro Amador (adductor) and Brooks Lennon (hamstring) are out for tonight’s match, joining Stian Gregersen (quadriceps) on the sidelines. That’s three experienced defenders we’ll be missing!
Deila knows the challenge is immense, emphasizing discipline and consistency. “We also need to use our squad right because I’m sure some are going to be tired,” he said. “We need to be very organized. If you start to press one-on-one, then we’re going to be blown up after after 30 minutes.”
