Head coach Michael Nsien of the U.S. Under-19 Men’s Youth National Team has summoned 24 players to a training camp in South America ahead of their matches against Uruguay on Tuesday, June 11 in Montevideo, and Argentina on Friday, June 7 in Buenos Aires.
The USA is getting ready for the Concacaf Under-20 Championship in Guanajuato, Mexico, this summer. Four teams from the competition will advance to the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile in 2025.
Players can enter the Concacaf U-20 Championship in 2024 if they were born on January 1, 2005, or later. Nsien will serve as the team’s captain for the 2005 birth year U-19 MYNT both in the build-up to and during the World Cup qualifying competition this summer. Nsien chose ten players born in 2005, twelve born in 2006, one forward born in 2007 (Zavier Gozo of Real Salt Lake) and one forward born in 2008 (Nimfasha Berchimas of Charlotte FC) for this roster.
Thirteen players from Major League Soccer are among the twenty clubs represented on the roster. Each team has two players from D.C. Among the MLS Homegrown Players are United, Real Salt Lake, the San Jose Earthquakes, and 14. Germany (three), England, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain are the locations of the other seven.
With three goals at the 2022 Concacaf U-20 Championship, midfielder Niko Tsakiris helped the United States qualify for the last FIFA U-20 World Cup. He also played for the USA in Argentina.
The USA performed admirably at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Indonesia last fall, thanks to the efforts of ten players: goalkeeper Adam Beaudry, midfielders Taha Habroune, Cruz Medina, Paulo Rudisill, and Pedro Soma; defenders Aiden Harangi and Stuart Hawkins; and forwards Nimfasha Berchimas, Keyrol Figueroa, and David Vazquez. Luca Bombino, a defender, served as a tournament substitute. At the 2023 Pan American Games in Chile, three players—defender Nolan Norris and midfielders Sergio Oregel Jr. and Brooklyn Raines—helped the United States place fourth, which was its best result since 1999.
