ATLANTA, GEORGIA—Atlanta United’s Argentine young midfielder Thiago Almada is one happy and proud soccer player today. This scenario developed after his goal in the 2-2 draw between Atlanta United and FC Cincinnati at TQL Stadium last August 13. He won the Major League Soccer goal of the week for week 25.
The goal was voted on by fans on the official MLS Twitter account. Almada’s curler earned 33 percent of the vote over Sebas Ferreira (Houston Dynamo), Danny Hoesen (Austin FC), and Lorenzo Insigne (Toronto FC). After a much-needed win at home last August 6, Atlanta United eked out the draw against FC Cincinnati. Veteran defender Andrew Gutman once again played hero for Atlanta United by scoring a late goal to avoid another defeat on the road.
The win is a huge morale boost for Atlanta United, who, despite an injury-plagued Major League Soccer season, remains in contention for a playoff slot. Atlanta United head coach Gonzalo Pineda is pleased with their draw as they successfully avoid another defeat on the road.
