ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The college soccer program of Mercer University just got a much-needed boost.
The top soccer high school player of Georgia has decided to play for the University this year.
Kadeem Agard, a talented forward of South Gwinnett who was awarded the 2020-21 Gatorade Georgia Boys Soccer Player of the Year, has committed to play for Mercer University.
Agard is the firsts soccer player from South Gwinnett High School to win the coveted award.
Sources said Agard is also the Gwinnett boys player to earn the award since Greater Atlanta Christian’s Chris Thomas in 2008-09.
South boys head coach Christian Vasquez is very happy and proud of the latest accolade of Agard.
“Kadeem had an incredible year,” Vasquez said.
“Kadeem had stats that you won’t see every day. Kadeem is hard-working and well-deserving of this award.” Vasquez added.
With the award, Agard is now one of the finalists for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year award to be announced in June.
The 6-foot, 155-pound senior forward has a stellar high school soccer career as he scored 43 goals and added 12 assists this past season.
Agard also leads the Comets (17-4-2) to the Class AAAAAAA state semifinals.
The two-time Daily Post Super Six selection also had seven goals and four assists in four postseason games.
Moreover, Agard also recorded 14 multi-goal games, including six hat tricks, in his prep career.
Aside from being an excellent soccer player, Agard has volunteered locally as a youth soccer coach.
