BeltLine Street Cup event is Feb. 22
The Atlanta BeltLine Partnership is partnering with Soccer in the Streets to hold the quarterly Atlanta BeltLine Street Cup on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Historic Fourth Ward Skate Park, 830 Willoughby Way. Free, advance registration is requested, and winning teams will receive medals.
Youth of all ages are invited to participate in this one-day tournament designed to use competition to test participants’ mastery of character traits such as teamwork, respect, sportsmanship, perseverance, and tolerance. Games are played with small teams in order to increase interaction, teams are created on the day of the event in order to promote diversity, and games are played without referees to reinforce positive conflict resolution techniques.
“The Atlanta BeltLine Street Cup is a component of the free health programming the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership is offering to engage the community in healthy, active lifestyles through partnerships with other health-centric organizations such as Soccer in the Streets,” said Atlanta BeltLine Program Director Rob Brawner. “We are excited to offer fun, exciting ways to get Atlantans moving.”
An Atlanta-based non-profit organization, Soccer In The Streets empowers under-served youth through soccer, character development, mentorship, and employment opportunities. Soccer in the Streets has pioneered the use of soccer for social change since its launch in 1989.
